The Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority (OMARA) has recently decided to sanction two registered migration agents. On 24 July and 7 August 2024, the OMARA suspended the registration of two registered migration agents for periods of six months and three months respectively. The sanction decisions were made after the Authority found that the agents breached their obligations under the former and current Code of Conduct while registered. The OMARA regulates the registered migration agent (RMA) profession to protect consumers seeking RMA services. For a full list of disciplinary decisions, visit: https://lnkd.in/dfUQVrR

I'm aware of cases where innocent consumers have been burnt by a shonky agent/practices, Home Affairs continuing to communicate with same agents on behalf of the clients despite these agents being under investigation for serious malpractice, leaving the clients with no visibility of upcoming visa declines (due to agent failures) and ultimately being forced to leave.Clients in these cases are not protected by Home Affairs nor OMARA and with no recourse at the AAT, despite the agent being long-term suspended.Extremely poor all round.

Wow, it's truly impressive to see such close monitoring in action! Hats off and a big shoutout to the authorities for diligently keeping an eye on those who breached their obligations under the former and current Code of Conduct.

Did you know free legal advice is now available if you are considering applying for a Protection visa (subclass 866)? Protection visas are for people who are currently in Australia and face a real risk of significant harm or persecution if they return home. If you are thinking about applying for a Protection visa, we strongly encourage you to get free advice from a specialist refugee and immigration legal provider.Find free legal providers in your state or territory by visiting https://lnkd.in/gFMVBZbs Applicants who do not meet Protection visa requirements will be quickly refused. There are serious penalties for giving us a visa application with false information, including large fines and possible jail time.

Australia’s National Terrorism Threat Level has been raised to PROBABLE.More Australians are being radicalised, and radicalised quickly. They are embracing a more diverse range of extreme ideologies. Anti-authority beliefs are growing; trust in institutions is eroding; provocative and inflammatory behaviours are being normalised. While you should be more vigilant, you should also have confidence to go about your life – for most of us the change in threat level will have no practical impact.Australia’s law enforcement and security agencies are among the best in the world and continue to do everything within their powers to keep the community safe. You can continue to provide valuable information to assist security and law enforcement agencies identify potential threats and prevent them from developing. If it doesn’t add up, speak up, by calling the National Security Hotline on 1800 123 400. For more information on the threat level, visit https://lnkd.in/enfwe9X

To write its report, the Multicultural Framework Review Panel travelled the length and breadth of the country. It listened to Australian voices in schools, sports and service clubs, places of worship, the arts, culture and business. To reach as many people as possible, the Panel published messages about the Multicultural Framework Review in 35 community languages and received 126 submissions – nearly a sixth of the total received – in languages other than English.Among many important insights, the Review notes the vital role of education, English language learning and effective translation services to support all Australians to enjoy the benefits of this country. Now, a summary of the Multicultural Framework Review report is also available in 33 languages, in addition to English. This is just one way the Australian Government is already taking action to improve inclusion and invest in multicultural communities, informed by the Review. New laws starting 1 July 2024 target employers who exploit temporary migrants.Workplace exploitation covers a range of behaviour, from underpaying workers, threatening to cancel their visa, pressuring them to accept poor living conditions or accept unwanted sexual acts.It is important you get help if you are being exploited at work – reporting early will help you to resolve the issue, and it might also protect other workers from exploitation. You can report anonymously. To find out more about the new laws and how to report exploitation, go to https://lnkd.in/g8xagP7U.
