Hulu's Top 5 Most Anticipated Shows Premiering in 2024; 'Shōgun,' 'Alien: Romulus,' 'We Were the Lucky Ones,' More (2024)

As 2024 rolls in, with it comes a new batch of hotly anticipated shows and movies for every streaming service. Hulu has had some of the hottest shows on the block in recent years, though strikes by Hollywood’s biggest writers’ and actors’ unions likely threw off production schedules enough to ensure there are no new seasons of “The Bear” or “Only Murders in the Building” this year.

Hulu makes it a bit more difficult to say when its shows and movies are coming to the platform this year, as it has not unveiled its official release schedule for titles past February. However, there are a large number of shows and movies confirmed for the service this year, and you can check out The Streamable’s most-anticipated among those below!

Shōgun’ | Feb. 27, 2024

Based on the 1975 James Clavell novel of the same name, the new “Shōgun” miniseries follows the tale of John Blackthorne, an English sailor shipwrecked in Japan. Intertwined with his story is that of Lord Toranaga, a daimyo with great power and a list of enemies too long to count, as well as Lady Mariko, a woman with undoubted abilities but a troublesome family who must prove her worth.

Early promotional materials for the show make it clear that its producers understood the sweeping historical epic placed in their hands. “Shōgun” has a large ensemble cast and much of the series was filmed in Japan, giving it an authentic setting for its expansive tale.

Alien: Romulus’ | Theatrical Release Aug. 16, 2024, Estimated Streaming Release Dec. 14

This latest installment in the “Alien” franchise will be released by 20th Century Studios, which means that its first stop after leaving theaters will be Hulu. It’s impossible to nail down the exact date of that arrival at present, but an estimate of a 120-day theatrical window would bring the film to Hulu on Dec. 14.

“Alien: Romulus” stars Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux and others. The film’s plot is shrouded in mystery for the present, and all that’s currently known is that it will take place between 1979’s “Alien” and 1986’s “Aliens” within the timeline of the franchise. “Alien: Romulus” was due to be a Hulu exclusive release, but Disney shifted gears and decided to send it to theaters instead.

‘Interior Chinatown’ | TBD 2024

This satirical look at Asian American stereotypes is listed as a crime drama, but there’s a good bet there will be plenty of laughs along the way. “Interior Chinatown” centers on Willis Wu, a background actor on a police procedural show who thinks he has a chance to be a leading man. When he witnesses a real-life crime, however, he’s thrust into the spotlight more quickly than he imagined!

The reason viewers should expect hilarity from “Interior Chinatown” (apart from the tone of its source material, the novel of the same name by Charles Yu) is the involvement of Taika Waititi as executive producer and Jimmy O. Yang as the show’s star. Anyone who has seen the work of these two comedy masters knows to expect hilarity when they’re involved.

New ‘Prison Break’ Series | TBD 2024

Are you ready for a new escape? In early November, news broke that Hulu was in development on a new series set in the world of “Prison Break,” the 2005 series starring Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell as two brothers, one of whom is wrongly imprisoned until his daring and intricately planned rescue by the other.

The original characters and settings from the show won’t return for the new series, but “Prison Break” creator Paul Scheuring is returning to serve as executive producer for the show. “Prison Break” became one of the most highly-regarded thrillers on TV during its run, so the new show will have a pretty big legacy to live up to.

‘We Were the Lucky Ones’ | TBD 2024

Hulu has confirmed this series will bow in 2024, though it has not given an official release date as of yet. This series is based on the bestselling historical fiction novel by Georgia Hunter about a Jewish family living in Poland in 1939.

The Kurc family will not be able to turn their eyes away from the horrors enveloping Europe for long, and soon they find the horrors of war at their very doorstep. Scattering across the globe, “We Were the Lucky Ones” focuses on the individual members of the Kurc family as they try to make new lives for themselves in strange, sometimes hostile places. Logan Lerman and Joey King are set to headline the show.
