13 Best XP Farms For Minecraft 1.21 (2024)

The best farms for XP in Minecraft 1.21 Java and Bedrock help you level up to apply enchantments to your gear as you take on more significant challenges in your world. Any contraption that builds experience will also drop valuable resources that could be used in other projects. Multiple places that generate XP will help reduce time spent hunting for experience and automate the process, making leveling up less tedious.

XP is spent at Enchanting Tables and Anvils that you build. These enchantments allow you to give items special properties or repair various objects that you've extensively used. The enchantments in Minecraft's previous update introduced traits to upgrade your strongest weapons, armor, and other tools. Both crafting stations mentioned require a lot of XP but are highly convenient places to make some of your best gear.

13 Basic Mob Spawner Farm

Early-game XP Farm

13 Best XP Farms For Minecraft 1.21 (2)

A simple kill room for hostile mobs is one of the easiest XP farms to make in Minecraft after you harvest a spawner from structures deep within cave biomes. Creating a room filled with water around the mob spawner will drag enemies into a pool of lava, eliminating them instantly. Even if this can be tricky to set up, the large amount of experience gained from the numerous mobs killed cannot be underestimated.

If you combine all mobs found in the cave biomes in the mob farm, you will yield many items besides XP, which are useful, especially early on in the game. These items can be found in the table below:

Cave Mobs

  • 0–1 Arrow
  • 0–2 Bone
  • Bow
  • Random Armor

Zombie

  • 0–2 Rotten Flesh
  • Armor pieces
  • 2.5% chance: Iron Ingot, Carrot, Potato, Baked Potato

12 Double Furnace Cooking Farm

Smelt Blocks Or Food For XP

13 Best XP Farms For Minecraft 1.21 (3)

Setting up a Double Furnace auto smelting farm is another easy way to quickly get a bunch of XP by constantly cooking food harvested from animals. You only need a good amount of coal or another fuel source to keep your Furnaces in Minecraft active. As long as you have a steady supply of raw ingredients from Cows, Chickens, or other livestock, you will have no problem maintaining this Minecraft XP farm.

Many XP farms rely on Hoppers to harvest the materials made from whatever process is done to generate XP. Hoppers can be placed on a crafting bench by placing five iron ingots in a 'V' pattern.

11 Enderman Farm

Gain Infinite Ender Pearls & XP

A far more difficult upgrade to a Basic Mob Farm in Minecraft focuses on Endermen alone. You have to reach The End through a Stronghold's portal before you can even begin building this kind of farm.

According to YouTube creator Rediscover Redstone, the trick with this type of farm comes from building a gateway made from Leaf Blocks that lures Endermen in when you look at them for an easy kill as they become aggressive.

10 Guardian Farm

Get 100 XP In 15 Minutes

Ocean biomes can sometimes host opulent Ocean Monuments in Minecraft patrolled by Guardians, rare mobs that yield some of the highest quantities of XP when killed. YouTube creator silentwisperer mentions how a series of waterways built above the Guardian's Temple will help funnel them into a trap made of Redstone. Pistons made along these watery paths lead these mobs to their eventual doom.

You must gather Prismarine Blocks and construct Sea Lantern pillars to regulate how Guardians will spawn. These creatures have stricter regulations behind their appearance, a trait not shared by other hostile mobs in Minecraft.

The unique aspect of water in the contraption you create means that the glowing orbs of XP produced from dead Guardians can be directed to flow to a single spot for you to collect.

The YouTuber claims that players can get close to Level 100 in XP in as little as fifteen minutes. Below, the table breaks down how many levels of XP players can acquire with the Guardian farm, along with how long it takes for the farm to yield these levels. Per hour, you can obtain up to 13,936 items, or 10,480 items without Fish in Minecraft:

XP Level

Farming Duration

Level 30

3:30

Level 40

4:30

Level 50

9:30

Level 60

9 Creeper Farm

Get XP & Stacks Of Gunpowder

Ironically, the least dangerous mobs from which to harvest XP are creepers since predicting how they will react in different situations is far easier. Building glass to encapsulate a group of Creepers in a Minecraft Creeper farm lets you see these creatures and control their movements without worrying about an unexpected explosion.

A trick with Snow Golems shown by YouTube creator wattles can manipulate how Creepers will spawn.

8 Automatic Dried Kelp Farm

A Quick & Easy Farm

13 Best XP Farms For Minecraft 1.21 (4)

Some of the best farms to make in Minecraft come from the most unlikely sources, with Kelp being a common material you may not expect to be important. Like the Double Furnace XP farm, this gadget uses Hoppers to funnel destroyed Kelp into Chests as experience is generated.

According to Rediscover Redstone once more, you can place Kelp on Sand Blocks and build a machine that can destroy it as it grows over and over. You will need to make a small stone building, preferably with Glass Blocks that allow you to see inside the device necessary for the farm.

Using Pistons, you can set up a timer that destroys the Kelp right as it grows to the right length, causing it to drop XP orbs. You only need two block spaces to grow this plant, making this a quick place to grab a decent amount of experience without as much effort as other farms in Minecraft.

7 Pillager Farm

910,000 XP Per Hour

Raiding a Pillager Outpost in your Minecraft world is a surefire way to gain XP, but these humanoid enemies are formidable opponents to take on. YouTube creator Nico is LOST has discovered a way to make a kill zone near a Pillager base to surpass enemy mob limits and produce mountains of XP.

A complex series of wide platforms and elevators comprise a structure you can build using instructions from the video below.

6 Automatic Cactus Farm

A Simple But Effective XP Farm

The Kelp Farm can inspire other XP farms fueled by vegetation, including a slightly more ambitious automatic cactus farm. A common plant found in Desert biomes in Minecraft, Cacti are typically used to create green dye or provide a prickly aesthetic to your base. However, elevated sand and Iron Blocks can be combined to shear growing Cactus plants and cultivate XP orbs on a much larger scale than Kelp.

YouTube creator Regund shows a simple concept behind using this strategy to take advantage of rapid XP drops from the destroyed Cacti. What makes this farm so useful is that the abundance of Cactus plants is apparent even in Survival Mode. Even with the 1.20 update to Minecraft, which added several biomes, like Cherry Blossom Forests in Minecraft, deserts are still extremely common places to find and allow you to collect this resource easily.

5 Gold Piglin Farm

Best Nether XP Farm

An XP farm proposed by YouTube creator James, a Piglin farm, gives perhaps the largest amount of XP from harvesting defeated mobs in Minecraft. The notorious hordes of Piglins seen in the fiery realm of the Nether are dangerous to take on, even under the best circ*mstances. The video describes how you can build a massive portal with an automatic flint and steel lighter to consistently lure Piglins to their deaths.

Piglins in Minecraft are also a great mob to farm not only for their XP but also for the other resources they produce, such as Gold Nuggets, golden armor, and golden swords that can drop when they die.

4 Fish Farm

The Best AFK Farm

The best XP farm in Minecraft is an AFK Fish Farm since it takes the least effort to make and requires almost no input from your character, as shown by Rediscover Redstone on YouTube. Setting up a Chest surrounded by signs and then placing water from a bucket in that space creates a tiny pond that cannot overflow.

Once again, Rediscover Redstone has put together an instructive video on making this structure with minimal materials.

The next step in this process involves making a Fishing Rod with a specific enchantment in Minecraft that allows you to catch rarer types of Fish in the pond you created. As of this time of writing, a glitch lets you use a Music Note Block and a Trapdoor to earn unlimited XP by continuing to catch fish in this spot. The safety of this small fishing zone means you can build it practically anywhere you want in Minecraft.

3 Armadillo Scute Farm

New Mob In 1.21

This is another farm created by silentwisperer, exploring an XP farm with the new Armadillo mob from Minecraft's 1.21 update (Tricky Trials). Although players may be reluctant to kill these cute scrappy mobs, doing so makes them drop Scutes, a new material that, when used in crafting, makes Wolf Armor that can be equipped onto tamed Wolves.

This new feature allows your pet Wolves to explore your world alongside you, looking stylish while better protected against the dangerous mobs lurking around.

While the farm yields these drops, it also provides a surprising amount of XP, as shown by its creator. You can create a basic one, fairly similar to how a traditional Cow farm works, where you place a bunch of Armadillos under a 2x2 structure of Glass Panes. All you need to do is continuously feed them to make them breed baby Armadillos.

The YouTuber then uses a Redstone Button to flood the farm, causing the babies to fall below while the adult breeders remain at the top. These adult Armadillos will continue generating Scutes while the babies grow up and produce more. From here, you can use a Sweeping Edge-Enchanted Sword in Minecraft to kill all the ones situated below, giving you heaps of XP.

The creator shows that you can get 24,791 Levels from this farm in a very short time, along with a Chest full of Scutes.

2 Breeze XP Farm

Get Breeze Rods & Trial Keys

Among the new mobs players can encounter in the new Minecraft 1.21 update, the Breeze has the most utility due to their valuable drops. One of these items is a Breeze Rod, which is used to craft the new Mace in Minecraft, the most powerful melee weapon in the game.

Rays Works has made one of the best farms that yields a plethora of useful items, such as the various Trial keys available in Minecraft. The table below outlines all the drops that you can get from this farm:

Breeze Farm

All Drops

Steak

Golden Carrots

Potato

Cooked Chicken

Bread

Ominous Trial Key

Trial Key

Potion of Regeneration

Potion of Strength

Potion of Swiftness

Follow the guide on how to create this new farm, as it is fairly complicated and requires the use of lots of resources. Moreover, players are required to build this farm within a Trial Chamber in Minecraft while also building half the farm's structure within The Nether.

The YouTuber teleports to the area where you can kill the Breeze. Unlike most mobs, the Breeze does not despawn, making this farm even more efficient.

Upon killing the trapped Breeze with a Looting Sword, you get tons of Breeze Rods as well as an extraordinary amount of XP. To make it most effective and get higher rates, you must have all the Trial Chamber spawner blocks in close vicinity, consistently moving around them.

1 Simple Slime & Silverfish Farm

60,000 XP Per Hour

Another unique 1.21 farm by Rays Works is the Slime farm, which uses several other mobs for it to work. To run the farm, players must activate the Redstone on the farm to splash an Allay with an InfestedPotion in Minecraft.

With the effect of this potion, Allays have a 10% chance of spawning 1–2 Silverfish every time they take damage. Although this seems like a low percentage rate, continuously using a Dispenser to splash the potion at the Allays will accumulate hundreds of Silverfish very quickly.

The Silverfish begin to spew out, separate from the Allays, and spread across a long tunnel filled with cobwebs, keeping them in place. Although this is meant to be used to produce Slimes, you can choose to use this farm as an XP source, as all the Silverfish can be killed.

To use it as an XP farm, the YouTuber adds a Sticky Piston to push the glass block, extending the glass so that the Silverfish land in the small gap below, allowing you to use a Sweeping Edge Sword to kill them in large groups without them escaping, as you absorb all the XP.

When the Silverfish dies, it drops x3 XP orbs. Two of them grant x1 XP points, and one yields x3, totaling x5 XP points, like most hostile mobs. However, players can only take so much XP per hour, limited to x10 XP orbs per second.

Due to this, anything over 22 Alays will produce more Silverfish than you can absorb their XP in Minecraft. If you kill all the Silverfish for an entire hour, you get 60,000 XP per hour.
