New coffee shop in Waynesboro

Becky Quick was the manager at the BP Station on West Main Street in Waynesboro for a number of years and she wanted a change.

"I needed something different," she said.

There's been an empty storefront available at her husband's furniture store just down the street, Quick's Used Furniture. Tim Quick has owned the business for 42 years and there was a salon in the empty storefront, but that was decades ago.The space was being used for storage.

Becky Quickthought it would be the perfect spot for a coffee shop. That's how Bec's Coffee Shop came to be. It opened in October and she said business has been pretty steady. She serves drip coffee, cold brew, doughnuts, breakfast options, pastries, a brown bean dish every Wednesday, hot dogs, ice cream and more.

It's like a little shop with a little bit of everything — snacks, drinks and a place to hang out. She has WiFi in the shop and encourages people to bring their computers and do work if they want. She originally intended it to be for students, but it's grown since then.

Quick said she enjoys being her own boss. For now, she's the only employee and she likes it that way.

She's open from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. The store is located at 100 N. Magnolia St. in Waynesboro.

ABC stores return to normal hours

Virginia ABC stores will return to normal operating hours starting March 1.

All stores will open by 10 a.m. every day, apart from some stores that regularly open later on Sundays, a release said. Closing times may vary throughout the state.

“With COVID-19 case numbers once again falling in Virginia, we are now able to return to our normal operating hours,” Travis Hill, chief executive officer of Virginia ABC, said in a release. “We truly appreciate our retail team’s dedication and flexibility throughout this pandemic, and we look forward to serving our customers with expanded hours soon.”

Since Jan. 24, all ABC stores have been on reduced hours, opening at noon due to the increasing number of COVID cases affecting staffing.

Future decisions related to ABC store operations will be made based on the best information available to ABC and implemented on a case-by-case basis, the release said.
